Let me start out by saying that I never thought I’d be here managing a “mom blog.” For those of you who may not know me, my name is Natalie Wilgus. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah with my husband Brad and our son Brandt. When Brad and I met back in 2008 I knew he was “the one” immediately and sure enough, here we are today! Our journey to parenthood, however, was not as immediate and straightforward.
I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) at age 15. I was told from that tender age that I may have issues with fertility when the time came. I paid it no mind at the time but when Brad and I decided that we wanted to have children that diagnosis played a very big role in our journey. After going through 3 rounds of timed intercourse, and 6 failed Intra-uterine Inseminations (IUIs) we pretty much gave up hope. The only way that we could possibly see to have children would be through In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Unfortunately the costs of IVF were not in our budget at the time so that meant putting our family building efforts on hold.
Luckily for us, we found out about a clinical trial at our fertility clinic and we applied to participate. The trial accepted us into their first round and we started our IVF treatments in January of 2019. On March 1st we transferred a frozen, Grade 1A embryo. (I only mention the grade because I am proud that our “little overachiever” as we dubbed him, was one of the rare instances of a perfect grade embryo and I’m proud of him for that!)
On November 25, 2019 we welcomed our (not so) little 9lb 15.5oz baby boy into the world via unplanned c-section. I’m still a bit resentful that they didn’t like 1/2 oz more of his cord on before they weighed him so that he could’ve officially be 10lbs.
Join me on this journey through infertility, parenthood, and beyond as I speak with other moms, couples, and experts on various topics. Thank you for being a part of the “average mom” family, please stay tuned as I gear up for the full launch of this blog in late summer/early fall 2020! In the meantime you can follow along with the updates on my Instagram @natyouraveragemom .
